Mayor Brandon Johnson launches program to combat youth violence

Mayor Brandon Johnson on Tuesday launched a new public safety initiative aimed at ending the cycle of violence on Chicago’s South and West sides. The program’s launch event, held at the Chicago Cultural Center, featured city officials, community leaders and stakeholders.

The program, called Cycle Breakers, focuses on providing resources to the city’s youth, their parents and guardians. City officials described the initiative as a collaborative effort.

The mayor’s office listed the program’s goals as developing conflict resolution skills among youth, helping parents and guardians meet basic needs and increasing opportunities for community members to participate in activities that promote reform in Chicago communities.
