Darrang Divas Celebrates 131st Birth Anniversary of Pandit Dineswar Sarma by Paying Tributes to Eminent Personalities

MANGALDAJ: A distinguished gathering of eminent personalities including scholars, senior citizens, activists and youth from Darrang district paid tributes to the eminent freedom fighter, journalist, historian and social reformer Pandit Dineswar Sarma on ‘Darrang Divas’ to mark his 131st birth anniversary during a grand function at the Mangaldai Sanatan Dharma Sabha Conference Hall on Tuesday. Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, Vice Chancellor of Assam Skill University Subhash Das, eminent surgeon Dr Illias Ali, a ‘Padmashri’ awardee, legislators Basanta Das and Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, OSD Assam Skill University Er Jyotish Sarma also attended the function and paid tributes.

“The BJP government is determined to complete the unfinished work initiated by Freedom Fighter brothers Pandit Dineswar Sarma and Tankeswar and other eminent Freedom Fighters for the all-round development of Darrang district. The construction work of the Rs 1,100-crore Assam Skill University project and NH 15 bypass are continuing to dedicate it to the people of the district within the stipulated time. The conversion of NH 15 into a four-lane highway from Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali in Tezpur will be started soon while the district administration has made all arrangements for allotment of the required land for the proposed medical college at Mangaldai,” said MP Dilip Saikia while paying tribute to Pandit Dineswar Sarma. “The illustrious life and works of Pandit Dineswar Sarma with the highest degree of dedication, commitment and selfless service to the motherland will surely remain a source of inspiration for the younger generation,” he added. MP Saikia was also congratulated at the meeting.

Participating in the Darrang Divas celebrations as the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor, Assam Skill University Subhash Das emphasised the need for scientific preservation, propagation and practice of the traditional and unique folk art and culture of Darrang district and recalled the role of Pandit Dineswar Sarma in preserving and propagating the folk culture of Darrang.
