EF-0 Tornado Confirmed in Cape Fair Following Last Week’s Storms

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The National Weather Service in Springfield confirmed that a tornado touched down near Cape Fair on Wednesday, July 3.

According to NWS Springfield, the tornado was rated EF-0 and measured 150 yards wide with winds up to 80 mph.

The tornado touched down three miles southeast of Cape Fair and traveled a mile along the ground, snapping or uprooting trees in its path.

The tornado occurred downstream of the Cape Fair Marina, which sustained significant damage and was partially submerged by last Wednesday’s storms. The damage to the marina was attributed to strong, straight-line winds, with the tornado later forming east-southeast of that location.
