Confirmed tornado hits western New York; follow the latest news here

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The 7 Weather Team is tracking severe weather and we will have much more information throughout the day.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said the town of Eden is in a state of emergency.

Poloncarz says the damage is significant on several farms and several barns are completely destroyed.

A number of animals were also injured.

Updated at 2:30 p.m.

Chautauqua County officials told 7 News the damage was limited to the northeast part of the county — Silver Creek, Hanover, Forestville. Trees fell, roofs were torn off some homes. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz released a statement on social media and said he had spoken with Gov. Kathy Hochul and that the New York State Division of Homeland Security was ready to assist.

Damage was reported in Eden, West Falls, Colden and Aurora, according to Poloncarz.

7 News spoke to officials in Hamburg and Eden, no injuries have been reported at this time.


  • Property damage was reported, with trees and power lines down.
  • At some point, all city employees were moved to a basement or central part of the building, away from windows.


  • On Geary Road, several houses were “devastated”
  • Damage reported on Sauer Road, East Eden Road
  • On the Sisson highway, a tree fell on a truck and the man inside had to be freed
  • Firefighters are on the highway cutting down trees and inspecting homes

A confirmed tornado touched down in western New York state Wednesday as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl moved through the region.

The tornado touched down in the North Collins area early Wednesday afternoon. According to the 7 Weather team, this is the first tornado we’ve seen in the area since 2022.

A tornado watch has been issued for all of western New York state until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
