Manchester City departure to be confirmed in next 24 hours after medical on Wednesday

Premier League champions Manchester City will finalise a deal to sell academy graduate striker Liam Delap to Ipswich Town within the next 24 hours.

The England youth international has been heavily linked with a permanent move away from the Etihad Stadium for several weeks, having completed a third consecutive loan spell in the Championship last season.

After temporary deals with Stoke City and Preston North End, the 2023/24 campaign saw Delap work under Liam Rosenior at Hull City, narrowly missing out on a play-off place in the English second tier.

However, with Delap’s path into Pep Guardiola’s plans continuing to be blocked by the presence of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, opportunities to play consistent football in the Premier League have emerged and become a no-brainer for the player.

And now it appears a decision has been firmly made as to where Liam Delap will play his football next season, after reports emerged earlier this week that Manchester City had simultaneously accepted offers from two Premier League sides.

Manchester City have reportedly agreed an initial £15m fee for the young striker, with a potential £5m in add-ons.

It is also widely understood that the Premier League champions have included a 20% sell-on clause in the deal with Ipswich Town, while also incorporating a buy-back clause into the agreement, thus remaining heavily committed to the player’s future.

Manchester City will have Liam Delap back sooner than some might have expected, with Pep Guardiola and his players welcoming Ipswich Town to the Etihad Stadium in their second home game of the new Premier League season on Saturday, August 24.
