Tesco in Bristol evacuated after suspicious item discovered

Police were called to a Tesco hypermarket in Bristol today after a “suspicious item” was discovered.

The building on Lime Trees Road was evacuated with a 100-metre cordon in place while explosive ordnance disposal experts attended the scene.




One reader who alerted BristolLive to the drama said: “Do you know what happened at Tesco Golden Hill? The store is closed until tomorrow. It’s all taped off by police.”

Police confirmed the item was removed and the incident was ultimately ruled a “false alarm.”

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called at 5.37pm today to a business on Lime Trees Road in the Golden Hill area of ​​Bristol following the discovery of a suspicious item.

“The building was evacuated and a 100-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution while an explosives disposal unit attended the scene.

“The item was safely removed and the incident was confirmed as a false alarm with good intentions.”
