John Legend has no plans of slowing down this summer.

Despite announcing in May that he would take a break from coaching next season, VoiceThe 45-year-old EGOT winner currently has his hands full performing on his An Evening with John Legend tour through October, working on his new album and writing the score for the 1933 Broadway adaptation of Fannie Hurst’s novel Imitation of life.

“There’s always something going on,” he says with a smile during a meeting with PEOPLE in his home studio.

He’s also busy with his unisex cosmetics line Loved01, which he and wife Chrissy Teigen have incorporated into their new collaboration with IPSY on the Icon Box project.

“People can choose all kinds of products for their IPSY box, and Loved01 has a really amazing selection of products,” he says. “Loved01 is everywhere in our house. We all use it legally all the time.”

Legend says his daily skincare routine includes Loved01 moisturizer, face and body wash, and face and body oil. He also uses an exfoliating cleanser every few days and cleansing wipes after taping day Voice.

As for Teigen, 38, Legend says she loves an exfoliating cleanser and shaving cream.

“We’re always using each other’s products, and I feel like she was always a little bit ahead of me in terms of knowing what cool products to buy and what to use to take care of your skin and body,” Legend says. “So I was always watching her, sometimes stealing her products. I feel like all that learning went into us starting Loved01.”

When creating the Loved01 brand, Legend focused on creating affordable products for melanin-rich skin, a demographic that has long been underrepresented in the skincare market.

“We spend a lot of time testing and developing melanin-rich skin,” she says. “One of the issues that people with darker skin tones struggle with is moisture loss, so all of our products are really focused on hydration. They have sea buckthorn oil and rosehip oil and all these other ingredients that help keep things hydrated and moisturized. The moisturizers are so luxurious and smooth and beautiful, but they don’t break the bank.”

Legend has it that his first foray into skincare was “dating” women who were “really into it,” and Teigen “definitely had a big influence on my routine.”

“When you’re in the spotlight, you obviously care about how you look, but you also want to do things that nurture and keep your skin healthy,” she says. “As I’ve grown and tried different things, I’ve learned how important it is to be intentional about taking care of yourself, and that’s what Loved01 is all about.”

Legend has it that an at-home date with Teigen is all about “self-care.”

“We cook for each other, play games, and just have really good times together,” he says. “I’m a little more into games than Chrissy, but we both love taking care of each other. We’ll have a glass of wine, cook, and probably watch Bravo.”

In June, Legend and Teigen were able to take their date night to the next level in Europe as he played his tour dates there. He says his decision to leave Voice allowed him “a little more time to tour.”

“I’ll be touring a little more this year, which is good because it’s summer, so the kids can come to a lot of shows,” he says. “I don’t like touring in the fall and winter when they’re in school because I feel like I’ll miss them a lot. So I’m trying to do most of it in the summer, which is good.”

While he says he and Teigen’s younger children, Wren, 12 months, and Esti, 17 months, don’t fully understand what he does yet, his older children, Miles, 6, and Luna, 8, do.

“They’ve been to a lot of my shows and come to see me work here in the studio,” he says. “In fact, I’m going to ask them to come and record some for my next project today, (because) I need some kid voices. So yeah, they know what I do. They love it.”

Legend has it that he soaks up every moment before his kids “become too cool to listen to their dads’ music.”

Currently, Legend says Luna and Miles are “really fun because they’re independent enough that you don’t have to watch them every second, but they’re also really interesting personalities.”

“They’re funny and smart and very engaging,” she says. “So I just like spending time with them, playing sports in the backyard, swimming, playing games, all that stuff. They’re just so fully engaged in the world and they have so many questions and thoughts, and it’s really interesting to find out what they’re thinking and what they’re learning in school and how it can help them with homework and all that stuff.”

While the younger ones “can barely form words yet,” he says Esti is “their little boss.”

“She’s really starting to have a bit of a personality,” he says. “It’s pretty clear.”
